Tech 101 IT Check List

New and returning Bobcats: Make sure you follow these steps to activate your OHIO online services before you arrive for the academic year.

Bringing a personal computer or portable device to campus? After you connect to our wireless network, follow these steps to make sure you stay connected:

Connect to OHIO Wireless Network

Bobcats can join the "eduroam" campus WiFi network rather than the "51ยายื Guest" WiFi network - it is significantly faster and meant for instruction. To login to eduroam, use your OHIO email address and password.

Install Microsoft Office 365 For Free

As a Bobcat, you are eligible to install Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus (which include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) for free on up to 5 personal devices. Versions are available for mobile devices, too!  All computers on the OHIO Eastern campus have Microsoft Office installed, so only install your copies on your personal devices.

  1. Login to the web version of (look to the upper left corner of the browser window (To the left of the green bar with a OHIO University logo), and click on the "App Launcher" in the "Nav Bar" -  (9 dots).
  2. Select "Install Office".
  3. The download and install should start.  Let it run and restart your computer after the installation completes.

Test Your Catmail Account

  • can be accessed through either the Catmail webpage or through Outlook (part of Microsoft Office 365).
  • Have a friend or family member send an email to your ohio.edu email address, or send an email to yourself from your personal email account.
  • Login to and confirm that the message arrived "OK".
  • If the message did not arrive, make sure you're not forwarding your mail:
    1. Login to .
    2. Select "Settings" (Gear Icon).
    3. Search for "Forwarding" in the search box.
    4. Deselect "Enable Forwarding" if checked.
    5. Close the window.

Activate your OneDrive file storage

OHIO also offers free access to Microsoft's Microsoft OneDrive. OneDrive integrates nicely with Microsoft Office has many collaboration features. If accessing on a public computer, be sure to log out of OneDrive when you are finished.

Set Up On-Campus Printing

  • In order to print in the Shannon Hall Library, you will need to add money to your Bobcat Cash account to cover printing costs.
    • Once you have money in your Bobcat Cash account, you will use your OHIO ID card to pay for and release your print jobs.
  • Information for adding Bobcat Cash to your ID card can be found on the Pay-to-Print web page. 

Disable Illegal Music-Sharing Software

Illegal downloading or sharing of copyrighted files is not allowed on our network. Please disable any illegal file-sharing software before you connect to the OHIO wireless or wired network.

You are welcome to use legal services like Spotify, Pandora, iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Prime, etc. on our network using your personal laptop or portable device. Just avoid installing the software on university computers and illegal peer-to-peer sharing. If you are detected sharing illegal files, you may be blocked from accessing the 51ยายื networks.
