Alumni, students and community partners came together Sept. 18-19 for the 2025 Thomas Lonsbury Memorial Scholarship Event. The event raised nearly $40,000 to support scholarships for students in 51ÂÒÂ×’s J. Warren McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies.
Students behind the game "Gnome Invasion" made a big impression at this year's GDEX competition, competing directly against professional game developers. The team's creativity stood out to judges and convention attendees.
The innovative training series was developed in partnership with the 51ÂÒÂ×'s Voinovich Academy for Excellence in Public Service and the Game Research and Immersive Design (GRID) Lab.
This is the 23rd year for the event, which was started in 2002 by Thomas Lonsbury, a passionate golfer who was a member of the McClure School advisory board.
Fletcher Holquist, a business analytics and management information systems student at OHIO, became the University’s first College of Business recipient of the Westin Scholar Award. His transition from marketing to cybersecurity, supported by faculty mentors and interdisciplinary courses, reflects the critical role of privacy expertise in modern business.
As Central Ohio solidifies its role as a key data center hub, the need for specialized talent is surging. 51ÂÒÂ×'s J. Warren McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies is preparing graduates to fill these critical roles through targeted technical and cybersecurity education.
Each year on McClure School Day, students get the chance to learn about possible career paths and the state of the technology industry from 51ÂÒÂ× alumni and experts in the field.
The event recognized individuals and groups who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, service and commitment to the OHIO community. The evening concluded with the selection of OHIO’s new student trustee.
