The Russ College is home to world-class research in avionics engineering, and we strategically target the transportation infrastructure, energy and the environment, and bioengineering fields.
We know that valuable learning doesn鈥檛 just take place in the classroom. At the Russ College, we provide a breadth of research opportunities for students at every level.
In fiscal year 2012, the college reported approximately $14.6 million in research and sponsored programs, under which our researchers develop technologies ranging from electrochemical engineering processes that enable the production of hydrogen for fuel cells from wastewater, to aviation navigation systems that the FAA depends on to make our National Airspace safe, to targeted drug delivery, to onsite remediation of wastewater from hydraulic fracturing (fracking). These projects, and many more than we can list, give our students the opportunity to start creating for good.

The Russ College operates state-of-the-art research and training facilities in several locations.
From our flying laboratories to our ground-based technologies, the Avionics Engineering Center maintains at the country鈥檚 only comprehensive avionics research and technology development center, with a state-of-the-art equipment, including aircraft, an antenna anechoic chamber, and a suite of software for analysis and modeling.
The Institute for Corrosion and Multiphase Technology operates the largest laboratory in the world for simulating and testing multiphase flow regimes and complex corrosion environments. What is unique about the facility is its size, complete circuits of pipe, and the number of flow loops.
The Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment houses groundbreaking research on alternative fuels, waste remediation, and sustainable materials, including advanced spectroscopy and analyzers, 3D printers, and more.
Ohio Research Institute for Transportation and the Environment researchers use the $2.5M Accelerated Pavement Load Facility and the National Asphalt Laboratory along with a Mobile Civil Infrastructure Laboratory.
