Through the 51ĀŅĀ× Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) Early Assurance Program (EAP), incoming freshmen can earn early admission to the 51ĀŅĀ× Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. 

About the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

The 51ĀŅĀ× Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) educates physicians committed to practice in Ohio, emphasizes primary care, engages in focused research and embraces both Appalachian and urban communities. Integral to this mission, OU-HCOM is committed to providing a clinically integrated, learning-centered, osteopathic medical education; embracing diversity and public service; and improving the health and well-being of underserved populations.

  • Waiving of the official MCAT medical school admission requirement.
  • Access to special undergraduate resources.
  • Mentorship from current OHIO EAP and OU-HCOM students.
  • Participation in programming and activities designed to provide a firsthand look into the medical school experience.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Have applied to 51ĀŅĀ× by November 15, 2025 (and eventually earn admission)
  • Have the equivalent high school (unweighted) GPA of 3.5 or greater on a 4.0 scale
  • Be an Ohio resident, have graduated from an Ohio high school and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Have four years of high school math, English, and science, including biology and chemistry (coursework in physics is also strongly encouraged)

Application Process

Applicants must the complete the EAP application — including a letter of recommendation from a science teacher, a school counselor evaluation and a personal statement — by Friday, December 12, 2025. Select students will be invited to interview in the spring.
