Janet Russell serves as 51ĀŅĀ×ās School Certifying Official (SCO) and Records Management Senior Specialist for the Brigadier General James M. Abraham & Colonel Arlene F. Greenfield Veterans and Military Student Services Center.
A proud West Virginia Army National Guard spouse for 31 years, Janet brings more than 20 years of experience in the medical profession to her role in higher education. She began her career at 51ĀŅĀ× in 2012 in a temporary full-time position with the College of Health Sciences and Professions Student Services. The following year, she joined the Office of the University Registrar as a Records Management Assistant, and in July 2014, she transitioned into her current role with the Veterans and Military Student Services Center.
As the universityās SCO, Janetās primary responsibilities include:
- Certifying enrollment for all veteran and military-connected students using VA educational benefits
- Ensuring university catalogs remain current with the State Approving Agency
- Managing VA risk-based and compliance surveys to verify that 51ĀŅĀ× appropriately administers GI BillĀ® benefits
- Supervising the Veterans Center VA Work-Study Program
Outside of work, Janet enjoys spending time with her family and grandson, Aden, as well as walking and reading.
