51ĀŅĀ× receives equipment donation from Stirling Ultracold

The 51ĀŅĀ× Innovation Center hosted representatives from Stirling Ultracold, one of the top producers of ultra-low temperature storage in the United States, on Sept. 26.
During the visit, the company generously donated a new VAULT100 ULT freezer to the Innovation Center. The Innovation Center had a need to store samples at -100°C and the Stirling VAULT100 provides a temperature range of -20°C to -100°C.
āBased on our longstanding relationship with 51ĀŅĀ×, as we develop new technology, who better to work with than OHIO and its Innovation Center?ā noted Stirling Ultracold Chief Executive Officer Clayton Newman.
Newman was one of three Stirling executives who toured the facility on the Sept. 26, others included Director of Customer Experience Tracey Deal and Stirling Ultracold Marketing Manager Lindsey Denney. The tour was hosted by Andrew Tucker, director of labs and regulatory affairs coach at OHIOās Innovation Center.
has a long history with 51ĀŅĀ×. The Free-Piston Stirling engine was developed at 51ĀŅĀ×, and the developing faculty was instrumental in the founding of Global Cooling, of which Stirling is a subsidiary. Today, Stirling Ultracoldās headquarters and primary manufacturing facility is still located in Athens, Ohio, with an international client base.
Tucker sees this as another step in OHIOās relationship with Stirling.
āBoth organizations have a longstanding commitment to innovation and novel technologies,ā Tucker said. āWe are looking forward to additional collaborations with them in the future. Itās all very exciting.ā
The donated freezer was immediately installed in one of the Innovation Centers shared āwetā labs where it will be used to hold hundreds of samples at temperatures reaching -100 degrees. This level of cold storage is vital to maintaining a variety of biologic samples in 51ĀŅĀ×ās labs and Ultra-Vault space is available to both the 51ĀŅĀ× and larger Southeast Ohio community to meet ultra cold freezer space needs. The donation will save OHIO more than $13,000 in equipment purchases in this fiscal year alone.
āWe could not be happier with the donation,ā noted Maggi McCord, director of development for 51ĀŅĀ× Advancement, ābut even more than this, it is another example of OHIO working with a local innovative company within our region.ā
