

Scripps alumna Jericka Duncan honored for professional achievement
The former WOUB host was recognized last month by the NAACP Cleveland Chapter and the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame for her work as a journalist.

In June, the recognized her commitment to truth and storytelling by presenting her with the Presidentās Award. Just weeks prior, sheād been named a 2025 inductee to the for her contributions to the western New York broadcast landscape; the induction ceremony will take place in September.

Duncan has been with CBS since 2013, reporting on the #MeToo movement, the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sean āDiddyā Combs trial and more. She frequently covers issues of racial injustice and other high-profile stories, such as the Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein cases.
āBeing recognized by your peers and to be told, āWe see the work that youāre doing,ā and āWeāre proud of you,ā is something that I cherish,ā she says. āYou donāt think about doing the work for that reason, but when someone takes the time to honor you and say thank you for your contribution to society, it means a lot.ā
Duncan got her start right here in Athens as a video production major in the early 2000s. From the very start, she says, it was a perfect fit.
āWhen I walked onto 51ĀŅĀ×ās campus, I just knew I had to be there,ā she recalls. āIāve only felt that twice in my life; the only other time I had that feeling was when I walked into the place I currently live in.ā
As an undergrad, Duncan worked as a producer, host and technical director for WOUBās cultural show Sauti, which covered topics that impact minority students on campus. She credits her experience with WOUBāwhich also included radio programming and weather coverageāas helping prepare her for a career in journalism.
