OHIO shares an update from health insurance provider Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, which administers Ohio’s health insurance plans, has informed the University that they are currently working to reach a new multi-year contract to ensure the various health care locations and services provided by the OhioHealth Health System – including O’Bleness Hospital, Riverside Methodist Hospital and the Grant Medical Center – remain in Anthem’s employer-sponsored health plans network after July 31, 2025.

Anthem has expressed optimism about the negotiations, and the University will continue to work with Anthem to ensure that OHIO employees can remain informed and prepared as their negotiations continue. Anthem has also created an that includes details about their negotiations and answers to frequently asked questions.

As Anthem’s negotiations progress, we want to remind you that all of OHIO’s faculty, staff, and their family members have access to Health Navigator as part of the University’s Employee Assistance Program through AllOne Health. Health Navigator is a free service that can offer a broad range of health advisory support – from help with accessing medical specialists to assisting those who might want to explore a shift in health care providers in the event Anthem and the OhioHealth Health System are unable to reach an agreement before their current network contract expires.

If you are currently receiving treatment for a serious or complex condition through the OhioHealth health system and have questions regarding how your care could potentially be impacted after July 31, 2025, please contact the Anthem Member Service Center via the number on your Anthem ID card.
