Applications now open for Sugar Bush Foundation Board of Directors

Since 2005, the Sugar Bush Foundation has partnered with 51ĀŅĀ× and local communities to enhance the quality of life and environment in Appalachian Ohio. Today, the Foundation continues that tradition by seeking dynamic, community-minded individuals to join its Board of Directors.

through May 20 for individuals interested in serving on the Sugar Bush Foundation Board.

As a supporting organization of The 51ĀŅĀ× Foundation, the Sugar Bush Foundation funds collaborations between 51ĀŅĀ× ā€”in Athens or at a regional campus—and at least one community non-profit or government entity.  Projects must build on the region’s assets and provide OHIO students with opportunities for meaningful, real-world learning opportunities.

Since its founding, the Sugar Bush Foundation has awarded nearly $5 million to initiatives that make a lasting difference in the region, including $390,000 during its 2024-25 funding cycle. Current funding priorities include strengthening local food systems and supporting sustainable environmental and socioeconomic development.

Board members bring a wide range of expertise to the Foundation and play an active role in shaping its work. They meet in person three times per year—in March, August, and December—and participate in two joint design sessions with project teams in January and February. Joint Design is the relational way that board members engage with projects to help shape them for success.  Board terms are three years, with the option to renew.
