OHIO undergraduate students invited to register for the OSCARS Impact Competition

All undergraduate students at 51ĀŅĀ× are invited to participate in the OSCARS Impact Competition.

Interested students are encouraged to apply early; registration for the competition opens Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 9 a.m. and will be capped at 32 entrants.

About the OSCARS Impact Competition
Based on the Three Minute ThesisĀ® (3MT), founded by The University of Queensland in 2008, the OSCARS Impact Competition will challenge OHIO undergraduate students to present a compelling oration on their research/creative work and its significance.

"What makes this competition so compelling is that it challenges students to consolidate their ideas and present them in a concise way to a non-specialist audience,ā€ said Roxanne Male'-Brune, senior director of grant development and projects in OHIO’s Research Division. ā€œThis opportunity is a fantastic exercise that enables students to further hone their critical thinking and presentation skills and best present the significance of their work.ā€

Prize Details
This year's prizes are sponsored by alum and current OHIO employee Mike DiBenedetto, a Senior Research Program Engineer in OHIO’s Avionics Engineering Center within the Russ College of Engineering and Technology.

Prizes are: $2,000 (first place), $1,000 (second place), $500 (third place) and $250 for each remaining finalist. A People's Choice Award ($100) will be provided to one undergraduate participant as well.

Competition Schedule
Competitions will be held as four semi-final heats in the evenings of Feb. 27 and 29. Each heat will be capped at eight participants for a total of 32 participants. The top two participants from each semi-final heat will be invited to take part in the final round the evening of March 5.

All participants must be available to participate in one of the semi-final heats and the final round.

Registration Details
Registration opens Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 9 a.m. and closes Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. (or sooner if the cap of 32 entrants is reached).
