Bronwyn Spencer was recently named AmeriCorps volunteer for the 2022-2023 academic year at 51ĀŅĀ× Eastern.

Spencer, an OHIO Eastern undergraduate student, will be volunteering this academic year as the AmeriCorps Student Resource Coordinator.  She is on pace to earn a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology this spring and plans to work as a pediatric physical therapist after completing graduate school at 51ĀŅĀ×.

ā€œIn support of the mission of Ohio Campus Compact, the AmeriCorps 51ĀŅĀ× Eastern Student Resource Center will be a place where college students can be connected to campus, community, and state or federal resources to alleviate barriers they face,ā€ said David Rohall, 51ĀŅĀ× Eastern Dean of Campus and Community Relations. ā€œAny barrier that may cause a student to not succeed academically, withdraw from a course or leave an institution without earning a college degree or credential should be addressed at the Student Resource Center.ā€

In her new role, Spencer will promote the Mission and Vision of Ohio Campus Compact that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and celebrates the positive aspects of a multicultural society. The Student Resource Coordinator will act as a knowledgeable intermediary between students and the resources available to them. She will be available to discuss issues, such as homelessness and food and resource insecurity.

ā€œThis year I plan to help Student Services start a career closet on campus. The Career Closet will be a place for students to access clothing for job interviews,ā€ said Spencer. ā€œI will also help manage the Catā€™s Cupboard food pantry on campus and will be available for students who need assistance.ā€

The Student Resource Center is located in Student Services and will be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12 p.m. ā€“ 5 p.m.

ā€œThe goal of the 51ĀŅĀ× Eastern student resource center is to support retention initiatives on campus,ā€ said Rohall. ā€œIn this position Bronwyn will be available to help fellow students access all the resources our campus has to offer.ā€
