Football League newcomers Burton Albion will pay a first ever visit to Madejski Stadium after they were drawn against the Royals in the first round of the Carling Cup.

Burton boss Paul Peschisolido is delighted to have been drawn against Reading. "It's a fantastic draw and I'm so pleased for the players," he said. "To get a draw like this is wonderful for the club and the players and it is a chance for someone to make a name for themselves."

Elsewhere West Bromwich Albion, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, will travel to Bury. Newcastle and Middlesbrough, who were also relegated into the Championship, received byes for the first round.

Top-flight clubs will not enter the competition until the second round, although teams that have qualified for Europe are introduced a stage later.

The final is set to be held at Wembley Stadium on 28 February. The first round ties are scheduled to be played in the week commencing 10th August, with Sky TV set to pick two matches for live broadcast on 10th and 11th.
