Having huffed and puffed and failed to blow down the house of Leicester City at the beginning of this week, Reading ended October with a stylish, deserved and thoroughly convincing 3-1 victory away at Coventry City. Brendan Rodgers’ men brought to a halt a run of four defeats thanks to a brace of goals from Grzegorz Rasiak with Jobi McAnuff getting Reading’s other goal. The result also helped to lift Reading out of the Championship relegation places.
Reading’s horrible run without a home victory will now go into November as Reading lost 1-0 at home to Leicester City. Reading played well during the first half, however the killer blow was struck in the final moments of the first period when Martyn Waghorn grabbed the only goal of the game. Reading’s defeat leaves the Royals third from bottom of the Championship table and without a home win in 16 games in a sequence stretching back to late January.
Another match against a team relegated from the Premier League and disappointingly from the Reading perspective, another defeat. Following Reading’s loss in their last match at home to Middlesbrough, Reading travelled to the West Midlands to face West Bromwich Albion. However the match ended in a 3-1 defeat despite Reading taking the lead early in the game. The result leaves Reading perched precariously above the relegation zone in 21st place. In total contrast Albion’s victory took the Baggies to the top of the Championship.
A stunning second half strike from former Reading forward Leroy Lita consigned Reading to their third home league defeat of the season. The goal was the visitors’ second of the match and came ten minutes into the second half. Boro had taken the lead through Sean St Ledger and eventually won the game 2-0. Reading’s run of matches without a home victory now stretches to fifteen games.
