Overview

Health, Culture & Discovery in India

Spend 3 unforgettable weeks in Mysuru, India exploring the intersections of health, culture, and wellness. This immersive study abroad program blends 48 academic sessions with hands-on experiences, giving students a unique perspective on India’s healthcare system and traditional healing practices.

Highlights include a weekend trip to Ooty in the scenic Nilgiri hills, yoga and meditation sessions, and a rejuvenating Ayurvedic Panchakarma treatment. Students will visit hospitals, rural health centers, and community programs while also experiencing India’s vibrant cultural life through dance, cooking, temple visits, and a Cultural Gala Dinner.

With a balance of academic depth and cultural adventure, this program offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn, travel, and grow in one of the world’s most diverse and dynamic settings.

Program Highlights

  • Students will enjoy a dynamic mix of academic learning, hands-on health system exposure, and cultural immersion throughout the 3-week program.
  • Health System Visits – Explore Indian healthcare firsthand through hospital tours, rural health center visits, and interactions with community health workers.
  • Traditional Medicine & Wellness – Participate in daily yoga and meditation and experience a full-day Ayurvedic Panchakarma treatment to understand India’s holistic health practices.
  • Cultural Immersion – Take part in cooking classes, temple visits, and a festive Cultural Gala Dinner that showcases Indian music, dance, and traditions.
  • Excursion to Ooty – A 3-day/2-night trip to the scenic hill station of Ooty, offering breathtaking views, tea plantation visits, and cultural exploration in the Nilgiri Hills.
  • Community Engagement – Learn directly from NGOs and rural outreach programs working in public health and social development.
  • Celebratory Gatherings – Conclude the program with a Farewell Dinner, reflecting on experiences and building lifelong connections.
  • Together, these experiences offer students a rare opportunity to blend global health education with cultural adventure in one of India’s most historic and vibrant regions.

Non-program-related entertainment, souvenirs, and additional travel are not included in the cost estimate and should be budgeted separately.

Eligibility

This program is open to all 51ÂÒÂ× students (undergraduates and graduates) who are in good conduct standing.

Students who will be on probation at any point during the program for a conduct offense that took place less than a calendar year from the program start date may not study abroad. Read the entire conduct policy.

Participants must have at least a high school diploma or the equivalent (e.g. GED) by the start date of the program to be considered for eligibility.  Students enrolled in College Credit Plus (CC+) are not eligible for study away programs.

Entry and Exit Requirements

U.S. citizens are required to have a valid U.S. passport when traveling outside of the United States. If you plan to study or travel abroad in the next year,   now. Some countries also require a visa to legally enter or reside in the country.
