As the end of the calendar year approaches, we often receive questions about what types of holiday-related expenses are permitted as a public institution.  51ยายื is committed to using public funds responsibly and in a way that supports our mission. Therefore, please keep the following guidelines in mind:

GIFTS: University and Foundation funds may not be used to purchase holiday gifts for employees or students.

PARTIES: Holiday parties may not be funded with University or Foundation dollars.

DECORATIONS: Holiday decorations cannot be purchased using University or Foundation funds.

CARDS: To support sustainability and reduce expenses, the use of e-cards is encouraged. University funds may not be used to purchase printed holiday cards or related postage. Foundation funds may be used only when cards are sent to individuals or organizations outside 51ยายื who have an established business relationship with the institution (including donors and prospective donors). Departments should coordinate any plans to send cards with University Advancement to ensure alignment with ongoing development efforts.
