Recycling competition underway in OHIOā€™s residence halls

51ĀŅĀ×ā€™s Recycling Battle Royale is a four-week recycling competition between each residence hall to see which can recycle the highest percentage of their total waste. Beginning Monday, Sept. 26, through Sunday, Oct. 23, every on-campus student will have the opportunity to learn about recycling while helping their residence hall rise to the top. 

Campus Recycling and OHIO Athletics to host Rufus Recycling Days this fall

Several 51ĀŅĀ× groups have been working together to plan Rufus Recycling Days for the fall semester.

The Athletics-Sustainability Working Group, Campus Recycling(opens in a new window), the Office of Sustainability(opens in a new window), and administrators and student-athletes from  have been meeting to plan these events.

Several 51ĀŅĀ× groups have been working together to plan Rufus Recycling Days for the fall semester.

The Athletics-Sustainability Working Group, Campus Recycling, Office of Sustainability, and administrators and student-athletes from  (including Regan Berg pictured above) have been meeting to plan these events. 

Each sport has a designated game during its season that will be a ā€œgreen game.ā€ To make the games more sustainable, volunteers will act as ā€œbin goaliesā€ to make sure that waste is diverted to the proper collection stream.  As a dedicated ā€œplayer for the planetā€ senior soccer player Regan Berg said she is thrilled to be a part of this new initiative.

Surrounded by a luscious organic garden, winding hiking trails and extensive solar panel arrays lies 51ĀŅĀ×ā€™s Ecohouseā€”a place with deep-rooted history in Athens.  

Situated between the Dairy Barn and behind The Ridges is the Ecohouse, a sustainable housing option for upperclassmen. Easily accessible by car and close enough for a comfortable walk, the house is located at 8133 Dairy Lane and has more to offer than what meets the eye.
